FALL FITNESS TIPS

Exercising outdoors doesn’t have to end once the temperature drops. Avoid feeling discouraged from darker evenings and chilly temperatures with a few fall fitness guidelines that will help re-charge your workout for the colder months. These helpful tips should get you back outside in no time.

Add seasonal activities to your workout regime.
Autumn activities such as apple picking, pumpkin gathering and raking the leaves are all fun bonding experiences as well as calorie burners. You can also research trails and parks nearby where you can take a brisk walk or run while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage.

Layer up.
Keep the changing temperature in mind before you head outside. Invest in breathable, moisture-wicking base layers and jackets, making sure to layer but not overdress. Your body will quickly warm up once your blood starts pumping. On colder days,  make sure to wear a heat to help keep you insulated.

Safety first.
Don’t let earlier sunsets deter you from getting outside. Evenings can still be spent outdoors, just make sure you will be seen. Wearing reflective workout apparel, adding headlights to your bike and carrying a small flashlight to light up your path are all great ideas for darker evenings. We also recommend sticking to a designated path for early morning/late evening runs.

Eat seasonally.
Plan a trip to your local Farmer’s Market for a great day outside and fill up on fall’s freshest produce including apples, figs, pears, sweet potatoes and winter squash.
